PowerPoint has been regarded as the leader in presentation tools basically due to it beinguser-friendly and simple . Its traditional use has been to create a narrated stand alone presentation. However, when preparing a group oral presentation assessment in one of my very first uni subjects, Learning Management 1, we wanted to use PowerPoint in a more visual and fun way to get our information across to our audiences rather than just applying it in the traditional way. We developed a PowerPoint that supported our presentation by creating quizz designed slides with visual and audio effects. We embedded our own audio recording as well as music and our own video. We were the contestants on a game show which resembled the tv gameshow Millionaire and the powerpoint was used as a backdrop but at the same time the main feature of our presentation. Some useful ideas of using PowerPoint in the classroom are presentations on topics, presentation of students work creation of stories, exercusion recounts, interactive activities such click and drag and many more.
A Prezi is a zooming presentation tool that is different to PowerPoint in that it is not linear and is flash-based. Creating a Prezi was realtively easy after you ran through the tutorials. It takes abit of time to upload photos but it allows for a lot more creativity in the design compared to PowerPoint. I do find viewing Prezi to be very uneasy and makes me abit motion sick!
